I originally called my account 'Squirrel Snacks', because the word "snacks" makes me so excited I could giggle, and I was also growing more and more infatuated with nuts. For a while, nuts found their way onto my plate in some way or another for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Many recipes I love, especially the ones that are Paleo-friendly are predominantly made of nuts -- (breads and cheesecakes made with blended cashews, endless desserts made of nut flours and nut butters, raw vegan desserts made of blitzed dates & nuts, etc.)
However, I realize this lifestyle is a little - I'm gunna say it, nuts, and so I've changed up a few things:
- Less Fats and more carbohydrates to suit my active lifestyle and stalk-up on that wonderful tryptophan
- Less nuts so as to not consume so much phytic acid (prevents the absorption of minerals it binds to)
- More variety & colour to my cooking, in order to explore, experiment & learn to make real food
So in a nutshell, (ha), I felt that Squirrel Snacks was no longer fitting. I've wanted to change it for a while, but couldn't land on anything I loved enough to commit too. Lately I've been looking into Positive Psychology, Mindfulness-based practices and happiness research -- so I sat down to think about the things that make me happy. (Which, side note, I think is so important to do, so you can then make an effort to incorporate those things into your day to day life)
Some things that make me the happiest are: watching cooking shows with my fiance (the best), a stack of pancakes with maple syrup poured on top, breakfast in general, chocolate, blue ink pens, ghee melted on freshly toasted bread, baking, TEA and figs, figs on toast, figs and chocolate, etc. And then it hit me, like a boomerang to the face. Tea and Figs -- they sound so lovely together, and they're two of my most favourite things!
Thus, Tea & Figs! This is my new blog, with less nuts and more cooking with real, colourful food. I'm going to take some time this summer to post some of my recipes, experiment with my nice camera and practice food styling and photography, and share some of my favourite blogs and recipes.
Feel free to message me, I love meeting people who love food as much as I do, and I really appreciate any advice /feedback. Hope you enjoy! :)
