According to Josua Weissman's cookbook, "The Slim Palate Paleo Cookbook": A Paleo diet avoids foods that were unavailable in the Paleolithic era, prior to the advent of agriculture & the cultivation of grains-- meaning no grains, no quinoa, no legumes, and in some cases, no dairy. This leaves you then with only "real, whole, nutrient-dense vegetables, fruits, meats, nuts, and seeds." (p.64).
The Paleo Lifestyle is a deliciously disciplined and healthy way to lose weight and enhance physical performance. You feel great and have stacks on stacks of energy because your body isn't frying it's battery trying to digest things we are not meant to. Basically if a Homo habilus wouldn't make it using a rock and a stick, it does not go in the shopping cart.
Personally, I cannot and will not cut out quinoa or dairy. I stay clear of processed foods & refined sugars, but I'm sorry -- I will not cut the cheese. ;)
The Paleo diet is not for me personally, but I am heavily an advocate, and would recommend it to anyone interested in giving it a go.
